Celebrating Steuben Seniors at the Corning Museum of Glass
From Steuben County,
The Steuben County Office for the Aging, in partnership with AmeriCorps Seniors Volunteer Program of Steuben County, proudly hosted a heartfelt Volunteer Recognition Event on Thursday, March 19 at the beautiful Corning Museum of Glass.
The event celebrated the extraordinary contributions of AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers who dedicate their time, energy, and compassion to serving communities across Steuben County. These individuals, all aged 55 and older, represent a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, yet share a common commitment: making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Throughout the afternoon, volunteers were recognized for their remarkable service, with honorees ranging from those who have recently begun their volunteer journeys to individuals who have contributed tens of thousands of hours over decades. Some attendees have been giving back to their communities for more than 30 years, embodying a lifetime of selfless service.
Several distinguished awards were presented, highlighting the depth and diversity of volunteer impact across the county.
The awards included:
- The Lifetime Service Award recognizing long-term dedication,
- The Outstanding Service Awards for both male and female volunteers,
- The Aging Awesome Award celebrating exceptional spirit and commitment,
- The Partner and Service Recognition Award honoring collaborative efforts with community agencies.

Special guests included Greg Olsen, Director of the New York State Office for the Aging, Steuben County Manager Jack Wheeler, and Michael Rogers from the office of Senator Tom O’Mara. They were joined by various agency leaders from across the county, all gathering to show appreciation for the volunteers whose efforts strengthen the region every day.

In their remarks, speakers emphasized the critical role volunteers play in maintaining the fabric of the community, especially during uncertain times. Whether assisting seniors, supporting local organizations, or simply offering a helping hand, these volunteers exemplify the spirit of service that defines Steuben County.
“This event is a reminder that even in a world that can often feel chaotic, there are individuals who choose to step forward and make things better,” organizers shared. “Their kindness, consistency, and dedication are what keep our communities strong.”
The AmeriCorps Seniors program partners with numerous agencies throughout the region, providing vital support where it is needed most. Volunteers serve in a variety of roles, offering companionship, mentorship, and essential services that improve quality of life for many residents.
