Felony Charges Filed After Suspected Drunk Driving Crash in Yates County

Bath Police assisted NYS Parole in a hotel drug bust resulting in three felony arrests.

A weekend crash in Yates County has resulted in serious criminal charges for a Branchport man, according to local law enforcement.

Deputies with the Yates County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported motor vehicle accident on State Route 364 in the Town of Benton during the early evening hours of March 7. The incident occurred near County House Road and prompted a multi-agency emergency response.

Upon arrival, authorities identified the driver as 39-year-old Michael J. Casciani. During the on-scene investigation, deputies observed multiple indicators suggesting the driver was under the influence of alcohol. Standardized field sobriety tests were administered, after which Casciani was taken into custody.

Following further investigation, Casciani was charged with several felony-level offenses, including driving while intoxicated under common law, operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content exceeding 0.08%, and aggravated DWI for allegedly registering a BAC of 0.18% or higher. He was also cited for unsafe lane movement.

Emergency responders from Penn Yan Fire Department and Penn Yan Ambulance assisted at the scene. No additional details about injuries or the extent of vehicle damage were immediately released.

Casciani was transported to the Yates County Jail, where he is being held pending arraignment in county court.
