Fred ventures into the electromagnetic, into the ionosphere
A OPINION By Frederick Sinclair
In 1952, physicist Winfried Otto Schumann, while investigating quasi-standing electromagnetic waves and natural frequencies occurring within the earth’s atmosphere, theorized that the Earth has a pulse. His hypothesis was based on the premise that electrical tension, which is present when a negatively charged sphere (the Earth), is located within another positively charged sphere (the ionosphere) and the tension between the two produce specific waveforms. Two years later, Schumann joined Herbert Konig in the successful identification of the specific ‘Schumann Resonance’ (SR) which naturally occurs in the ionosphere. Five naturally occurring resonant frequencies were identified between between 30 to 600 miles in altitude within a band of 0 to 60 Hz, with the strongest and fundamental base frequency of the SR resonating at 7.83 Hz. Hertz (Hz) is a unit of frequency, cycle, or number of wave occurrences per second. Wave length is a unit measurement of distance it travels in one second. The base SR frequency has a wavelength of 24,000 miles which ironically, is approximately the circumpherence of the earth. Lightning strikes (averaging 50 strikes per second worldwide) are plasma discharges which generate and maintain the Schumann Resonance. Each lightening strike creates SR waveforms that merge into sustained wave patterns (vibrations) that are woven into the fabric and function of the earth and life itself.

Human physiology and biological systems of all life on Earth have acclimated themselves, over millions of years, to growth and function within naturally occurring energetic vibrations which include the Schuman Resonance. These electromagnetic fields are integral to biological function, from subatomic molecular structures all the way up into and including our psyche and consciousness. The importance of being within the natural Schumann Resonance was demonstrated when astronauts, on extended space missions, or those who were isolated, for extended periods from the SR, became disoriented and fell ill. NASA uses 7.83 frequency generators to prevent ‘space sickness’ and scientists have demonstrated that subjects become disoriented by long periods in isolation chambers and are revitalized by re-immersion in the resonance. Konig and other scientists have demonstrated a clear link between Schumann Resonances and human brain activity. Several levels of brain waves match the frequencies of the Schuman resonance; which also supports findings of the human connection, sensitivity to the Earth’s natural electromagnetic fields and their entrainment in human biology.
There is a report titled Schuman Resonances and Their Effect on Human Bioregulation authored by Dr James Odell and published in October 2025 by the Bioregulatory Medicine Institute. It is a tremendous resource for further understanding the Schumann Resonance. The report also includes 12 references which provide solid support for his conclusions and those of this article. Find the report at: https://www.brmi.online/post/2019/09/20/schumann-resonances-and-their-effect-on-human-bioregulation We will close this article with a quote from the section of Dr. Odell’s report that introduces his findings and discussion of Electrosmog’s Effect on Schuman Resonances and Life on Earth. The full report is a must read!
“Research, over the past several decades, demonstrates that alterations in geomagnetic activity from man-made electromagnetic technology –‘electro-smog’ have caused significant changes in the intensity and stability of the Schumann Resonance. Telecommunications technology operates within the Earth’s ionosphere cavity, and these artificial signals can influence and even change the Schuman Resonance to fluctuate outside its normal spectrum. This, in turn, can potentially induce alterations in the normal resonance with many Earth life-forms, particularly influencing brain rhythms and human physiology synchronization.”
