A Wayne County man has been arrested and indicted following a child sexual abuse investigation that began in 2023, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators say 43-year-old Jason Edwards, of Wolcott, was charged with first-degree sexual abuse after a Wayne County Grand Jury issued an indictment warrant connected to the case. Authorities allege Edwards subjected a child under the age of 11 to unwanted sexual contact during the early morning hours while the child was asleep.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation was conducted by Detective Gaziano and remained active for nearly three years before the indictment was secured. Edwards was taken into custody and transported to Wayne County Court for arraignment. Additional court appearances are expected at a later date.
Officials have not released additional details about the child involved or the circumstances surrounding the alleged incidents. Authorities also have not indicated whether additional charges are anticipated as the case proceeds through the court system.
Law enforcement emphasized that the charge is an accusation, and Edwards is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
