A Penn Yan woman suffered serious injuries Friday afternoon following a two-vehicle collision in the Town of Seneca, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the crash occurred around 3:15 p.m. at the intersection of Wabash Road and Kashong Switch Road. Investigators determined that 33-year-old Alexander Hathaway, of Penn Yan, was traveling eastbound on Kashong Switch Road when he allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a southbound vehicle driven by 32-year-old Jennifer Pym, also of Penn Yan.
Authorities said Pym, who was driving a 2026 Hyundai, was found unconscious at the scene with severe injuries. She was airlifted by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment. Hathaway, who was operating a 2022 Ford F-150, was transported by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital with complaints of pain.
The sheriff’s office said Hathaway was issued a traffic ticket for failing to stop at the stop sign. The roadway was temporarily closed while emergency crews investigated and reconstructed the crash scene.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Stanley, Hall, Benton, Bellona, and Gorham fire departments, along with Gorham EMS. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
