Yates County economic development official Steven Griffin has been elected to a leadership position with one of New York’s leading economic development organizations.
Griffin, chief executive officer of the Finger Lakes Economic Development Center, has been named chair of the Board of Directors for the New York State Economic Development Council (NYSEDC). The appointment was made during the council’s annual meeting held in Cooperstown on May 20. Griffin will serve a two-year term overseeing the statewide organization.
In announcing the appointment, Griffin said he was honored to serve and noted that his selection reflects the council’s commitment to representing communities of every size throughout the state.
The NYSEDC represents a broad network of economic development professionals and organizations across New York, including industrial development agencies, local development corporations, financial institutions, utilities, chambers of commerce, colleges, universities, and private-sector consultants. The organization includes more than 1,000 members and partners statewide.
His appointment places a Finger Lakes representative at the forefront of statewide conversations involving business growth, infrastructure investment, workforce development, and economic policy as communities across New York continue competing for new jobs and investment opportunities.
