TORREY – Two Binghamton men suffered serious injuries Saturday evening after a police pursuit that began in Yates County ended in a crash in neighboring Ontario County. According to the Yates County Sheriff’s Office, deputies attempted to stop two motorcycles traveling north on State Route 14 in the Town of Torrey at approximately 5:15 p.m. The riders allegedly failed to stop and instead attempted to flee from deputies, leading authorities on a pursuit toward the Yates-Ontario county line.
Authorities said the pursuit continued into Ontario County, where both motorcycles collided with a southbound sedan near the county line. Investigators said the two motorcyclists were traveling at a high rate of speed and were unable to successfully navigate the roadway before striking the uninvolved vehicle. The occupants of the sedan were not injured in the collision.
The injured motorcyclists were identified as 45-year-old John A. Chordas Jr. and 31-year-old Trae Salisbury, both of Binghamton. Both men sustained serious injuries that authorities said are not believed to be life-threatening. They were transported by helicopter to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment.
