A Sleeker Face for Finance: Finger Lakes Federal Credit Union Drops the ‘Federal’ in Major Rebrand

July 7, 2026

GENEVA – One of the region’s largest member-owned financial institutions is shedding a piece of its name as part of a sweeping visual modernization, but local savers can rest assured that their money isn’t moving an inch.

Finger Lakes Federal Credit Union has officially pulled back the curtain on an extensive brand identity overhaul. Headlining the change is a decision to trim the institution’s public-facing marketing name down to simply Finger Lakes Credit Union. Alongside the shortened moniker, the credit union is rolling out a fully refreshed visual portfolio, complete with redesigned logos, updated typography, and a brand-new color palette.

The modern facelift is designed to reflect nearly six decades of continuous physical and digital expansion. According to corporate executives, the aesthetic shift captures the credit union’s evolved suite of contemporary services while firmly honoring the community-first mission it has championed since local educators chartered the cooperative in 1967. Members first caught a glimpse of the updated aesthetics during a quiet soft-launch in late June, and a full public integration is currently expanding across web portals, social platforms, and regional marketing collateral.

“The updated brand reflects nearly six decades of growth alongside the communities the credit union serves while reaffirming its commitment to members,” stated President and CEO Bob McFadden.

To prevent confusion among the institution’s vast regional membership, executive leadership emphasized several key facts regarding the operational boundaries of the cosmetic rebrand:

  • Unchanged Regulatory Status: Despite dropping “Federal” from public signs and logos, the institution remains fully under a federal charter and will continue to be governed by the exact same regulatory guidelines.
  • Secured Account Holdings: The branding shift has zero impact on daily operations, member accounts, or automated transactions; all deposits remain completely backed and insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA).
  • Consistent Staffing and Services: Local branches will continue to be staffed by the same personnel, with no reductions or changes scheduled for the cooperative’s localized lending and banking services.
  • Phased Branch Rollout: Residents will see the updated name and logos gradually materialize across physical branch locations throughout the remainder of 2026 and well into 2027.
  • Substantial Local Footprint: The non-profit cooperative currently commands roughly $250 million in total assets, providing financial services to a growing network of more than 22,000 members.

As the physical signage transforms over the coming months, the organization’s regional anchors remain firmly secured. The credit union will continue to anchor its member-centric operations out of its four core regional branch locations operating in Geneva, Phelps, Fairport, and Webster.
