Morning Blaze Heavily Damages Canandaigua Waterfront Home, Injures Firefighter

Staff Report / July 18, 2026

GORHAM – A lakeside neighborhood became the scene of a emergency response Friday morning after a fast-moving fire tore through a waterfront home and sent a first responder to the hospital. Multiple fire departments rushed to the property along East Lake Road on Canandaigua Lake following urgent 911 calls detailing a residential structure completely wrapped in flames.

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office reported that the initial emergency dispatch went out around 9:05 a.m., drawing a heavy contingent of mutual aid crews to the Gorham property. First responders faced a grueling battle against the intense heat and heavy smoke, ultimately operating on the scene for more than three hours before successfully bringing the stubborn blaze under control. While the home’s occupants managed to escape unscathed, one firefighter sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the containment effort and was transported to F.F. Thompson Hospital for treatment. No further civilian or emergency personnel injuries were reported.

While local fire investigators have not yet officially declared the lakeside home a total loss, the sheer severity of the inferno left a visible mark on the tight-knit neighborhood corridor. The intense radiant heat blasting from the primary structure was so severe that it caused noticeable exterior damage to the neighboring homes situated on both sides of the burning property. The precise cause of the morning fire remains under active investigation by county fire officials.
