WOLCOTT — The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after human remains were discovered along the Lake Ontario shoreline.
On July 11, deputies responded to Blind Sodus Bay after kayakers reported seeing what appeared to be a human foot wearing a hiking boot on the breakwall. Arriving deputies confirmed the report and recovered the remains at the scene.
The foot was transported to the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office, where forensic investigators are working to determine the identity of the individual and the circumstances surrounding the case.
The Sheriff’s Office is managing the case through several standard investigative steps:
- Multi-Agency Coordination: Local detectives are working alongside multiple law enforcement agencies to cross-reference missing persons files.
- International Outreach: Due to the shared waters of Lake Ontario, investigators are actively coordinating efforts with authorities in Canada.
- Medical Examination: The Monroe County Medical Examiner is conducting testing to establish a identity and time frame.
No additional details have been released by authorities, and the investigation remains open.
