AUBURN — What began as an early morning walk turned into a complex underground rescue mission for one local family after their curious canine ended up trapped beneath a concrete driveway.
Dispatched at approximately 8:00 a.m., members of the Auburn Fire Department’s Truck Company responded to a residential call on Washington Street regarding an animal in distress. Upon arrival, firefighters learned that a family dog had pursued a target down a groundhog hole, traveling deep underneath the home’s driveway where the animal subsequently became wedged and unable to back out.
Rather than breaking up the driveway, resourceful crews identified an alternative point of entry through a crawl space located beneath the residence. Firefighters navigated the tight crawl space, pinpointed the dog’s location roughly six feet beneath the driveway slab, and successfully extracted the pet back to the surface.
