KEUKA PARK – Keuka College announced that it has opened a new Rural Community Outpatient Clinic designed to expand critical healthcare access across Yates County and to provide hands-on clinical training for future healthcare workers.
U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer joined college leaders on Monday for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the launch. Schumer secured $1.6 million in federal funding for the clinic through the Fiscal Year 2024 federal budget, following an initial push he announced during a visit to the region in September 2023. The facility directly addresses findings from a 2025 New York State Comptroller’s report highlighting severe healthcare provider shortages across 16 rural counties, including Yates.
Key details regarding clinical services, patient impact, and student training include:
- Comprehensive Healthcare Services: The clinic offers nursing care, occupational therapy, social work counseling, athletic training, physical therapy, and wellness coaching.
- Community Impact: Officials estimate the facility will deliver essential care to roughly 1,000 additional rural residents in the surrounding community.
- Clinical Training Hub: Approximately 100 Keuka College students enrolled in healthcare programs will receive clinical training at the facility each year.
- Regional Workforce Retention: Keuka College President Amy Storey noted that the hands-on experience prepares students for local careers, supporting a pipeline where roughly 85% of Keuka alumni remain in New York State after graduation.
