School Incident Public Media Release Joint investigation Penn Yan Police Department and Yates County Sheriff Office
Multiple law enforcement agencies responded today, October 22, 2026 to reports of a potential threat involving the Penn Yan Central School District’s high school, middle school, and elementary school.
Out of an abundance of caution, all Penn Yan school buildings, as well as Dundee Central School, St. Michael School, and Emmanuel Baptist Academy, were placed in lockdown or lockout status while the report was investigated.
Law enforcement personnel from multiple agencies, assisted by K-9 teams and school staff, conducted systematic searches of all three Penn Yan school buildings. Upon completion of the searches, officials determined there was no active threat to students, staff, or the community.
All schools were released from lockdown and lockout status once the searches were completed and the buildings were cleared. Parents of students were advised of pickup locations for their children. Again, it was determined that there was no immediate threat to the students, staff, or community.
The investigation into the source of the reported threat remains ongoing.
