Severe storms left thousands without power across Chemung, Schuyler, and Steuben counties. NYSEG works to restore service amid varying outage times.
Severe storms swept through Chemung, Schuyler, and Steuben counties on Monday evening, leaving over 28,000 NYSEG customers without power. According to NYSEG’s outage list, at approximately 7:45 p.m. on July 15, 14,308 customers in Chemung County, 9,610 in Steuben County, and 5,035 in Schuyler County were affected. Major areas hit include Elmira, Southport, Hector, Corning, and Catlin.
The outage map displays numerous smaller and some larger outages, impacting hundreds of customers with varying estimated restoration times. NYSEG anticipates most areas in the Southern Tier to have power restored between 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., but crews are still determining restoration times for other affected areas.
