From the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office – September 9th 2024

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office Navigation Division will host a one-day New York State Boater’s Safety Course on Saturday, October 19, 2024. The class will be held from 8:00am to 5:00pm at the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, 7007 Rumsey Street, Ext., Bath, NY 14810 in the Front Conference Room. You must be at least 10 years old to attend and must pass a written test at the end of the session.

Seating for the class is limited and pre-registration is required. There is NO COURSE FEE for this class. New York State charges a fee of $10 for the boater’s certificate which does not expire. The fee is waived for students less than 18 years old. Starting in 2025, all persons will be required to have passed an approved course in boater education in order to operate a motorboat in New York State. All operators of personal watercraft (jet skis/wave runners) must possess the boater safety certificate and be at least 14 years old.
