Yates County Sheriff Frank Ryan has announced the observance of Sheriffs’ Week, a time to recognize the vital role of law enforcement. This annual event, taking place during the third week of September, pays tribute to the history and significant contributions of the Office of Sheriff, which dates back to colonial times.
Sheriff Ryan highlighted that the Office of Sheriff is the oldest local office in New York, having been established in Yates County in 1823. He expressed pride in the dedication and professionalism of his team, stating, “We are very proud of the services we provide to the citizens of Yates County and the professionalism our staff displays daily.”
The responsibilities of the sheriff’s office today include road patrols, criminal investigations, marine patrol, and 911 dispatch services, all aimed at ensuring public safety throughout the year.
