Steuben County to Participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

The Steuben County Sheriff's Office and the Steuben Prevention Coalition Opioid Committee will host a National Prescription Drug Take Back Day event on October 26th.

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office and the Steuben Prevention Coalition Opioid Committee will host a National Prescription Drug Take Back Day event on October 26th.

In an effort to combat opioid addiction and promote safe medication disposal, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office and the Steuben Prevention Coalition Opioid Committee are joining forces with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to host a National Prescription Drug Take Back Day event.

The event will take place on Saturday, October 26th, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Public Safety Building located at 7007 Rumsey Street Ext. in Bath, NY.

What can be brought?

  • Residents are encouraged to bring any unwanted, unused, or expired prescription medications for safe disposal. This includes:
    • Tablets
    • Capsules
    • Patches
    • Other solid forms of prescription drugs

Why participate?

  • Unwanted medications left at home are susceptible to theft and misuse, potentially leading to addiction or accidental overdose.
  • Proper disposal helps protect the environment from harmful contaminants that can enter waterways through traditional disposal methods.
  • Take Back Day provides a safe and anonymous way to dispose of unwanted medications.

“This is a great opportunity to clean out your medicine cabinets and ensure the safety of your family and community,” said Steuben County Sheriff James Allard. “Opioid addiction is a serious issue, and by working together, we can make a difference.”

National Take Back Day Impact

Since its inception, the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, held biannually, has collected a staggering 9,285 tons of medication nationwide. This program plays a vital role in preventing addiction and protecting public health.
