A historic dedication ceremony is set to take place in Steuben County on October 25th to honor the placement of the Charters of Freedom.
A historic dedication ceremony is set to take place in Steuben County on Friday, October 25th, at 1:00 PM in Pulteney Park. The event will commemorate the permanent placement of the Charters of Freedom in the community.
The Charters of Freedom, which include the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights, are being placed in communities across the country by Foundation Forward, a non-profit organization founded by Vance and Mary Jo Patterson. The couple’s inspiration for creating Foundation Forward came from their first visit to the National Archives, where they were deeply moved by seeing the original documents.
“Seeing something our founding fathers had actually penned, and then seeing their signatures – Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and the others, I just got goosebumps,” Vance Patterson shared. “And then when we moved over and saw those first three words of The Constitution, ‘We The People,’ I actually got a lump in my throat.”
Since their founding, Foundation Forward has successfully placed the Charters of Freedom in numerous communities across the United States, including Alabama, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Nevada, North Carolina, South Carolina, South Dakota, Virginia, Missouri, Florida, California, Georgia, and as far west as Wasilla, Alaska.
The public is invited to attend the dedication ceremony in Bath, which will be a significant milestone for Steuben County as it joins the growing number of communities honoring the nation’s founding documents.
