Veteran Educator Dr. Gregory Baker to Lead Penn Yan Schools

Dr. Gregory Baker, a seasoned educator with a deep-rooted connection to the Penn Yan Central School District, has been named the district’s next superintendent.

Dr. Gregory Baker, a familiar face in the Penn Yan School District, is set to take on a new role as the district’s next superintendent. The school board announced their decision to appoint Baker, who currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction & Staff Development.

Baker, a seasoned educator with a strong commitment to student success and community engagement, has been instrumental in shaping the district’s academic programs and initiatives. His experience includes leadership roles at Lyons Central School and Byron-Bergen School, where he focused on enhancing instructional practices and supporting all learners.

“I am incredibly honored to have the opportunity to continue serving the Penn Yan community as Superintendent of Schools,” said Baker. “My goal is to lead through a lens of deep respect and admiration for those I serve, with a focus on academic excellence, fostering the whole child, and supporting staff.”

Baker will officially assume the superintendent position on January 1, 2025, succeeding Howard Dennis who is retiring. The school board expressed gratitude to the community for their participation in the selection process and emphasized that Baker’s experience and dedication align perfectly with the district’s goals and values.
