The Corning Hawks saw their football season come to a close on Saturday with a tough 56-7 defeat against Albany Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) in the Class AA state semifinals at Middletown High School.
CBA, now boasting an undefeated 12-0 record, delivered a dominant performance, racking up 35 points in the first half and accumulating an impressive 515 yards of total offense. Leading the charge was Thomas Toher, who rushed for 169 yards and scored two touchdowns.
Corning’s lone bright spot came in the fourth quarter, when Brenden Jardin-Reed broke free for a 32-yard touchdown run, offering a glimpse of the team’s resilience despite the uphill battle.
The loss marked the end of a hard-fought season for the Hawks, while CBA advanced with their sights set firmly on the state championship.
