A fatal accident at Taughannock Falls State Park in Ithaca has claimed the life of an unidentified individual, whose body was recovered early Monday morning.
Emergency responders, including the Trumansburg Fire Department, law enforcement, and New York State Park Police, were dispatched late Sunday night after reports surfaced of someone falling into the gorge.
The body was discovered approximately a quarter mile upstream from Taughannock Falls. Rescue crews used specialized high-angle rope equipment to recover the victim from the steep and rugged terrain.
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the fall. State Police and Park Police have stated that further details will be released as they become available.
