A school bus carrying three students veered off State Route 247 near Mothersill Road in the Town of Potter early Tuesday morning but fortunately resulted in no injuries.

The Yates County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were dispatched to the scene at approximately 8:10 a.m. The incident involved a full-sized Penn Yan Central School District bus operated by David R. Mulberger, 61, of Penn Yan, NY. Winter road conditions contributed to the bus losing control, causing it to leave the roadway, travel down a field, and strike several trees.

Three child passengers, aged 12 to 17, were aboard the bus at the time of the accident. Thankfully, none of the occupants, including the driver, sustained injuries. The students were able to contact their parents from the scene.

Deputy C. Hansen and Sergeant J. Rider of the Yates County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident. The Sheriff’s Office confirmed that no charges were filed against the driver, and no additional agencies were required at the scene.

This accident serves as a reminder of the challenges posed by winter weather and the importance of driving cautiously during such conditions. The Yates County Sheriff’s Office urges drivers to remain vigilant and adapt their speed to road conditions to ensure the safety of all travelers.
