Drivers in Steuben County should prepare for travel changes as a section of State Route 54A in the Town of Pultney will close starting Monday, September 8, at 6:30 a.m. The closure, stretching between County Route 74 and County Route 32, will allow crews from the New York State Department of Transportation to replace a retaining wall. The project is expected to wrap up by the end of the month.
A posted detour will redirect traffic along Emergency Route “B,” which includes County Routes 74, 78, 33, and 32. Officials warn motorists to plan for possible delays and consider alternate routes when possible.
The DOT reminds drivers that construction schedules may shift depending on weather conditions. Motorists traveling through work zones are urged to reduce speed and use caution. Penalties for speeding in work zones are doubled, and multiple violations could result in license suspension.
