Geneva NY – A Geneva man is facing criminal charges after police say his 13-year-old child accidentally ingested cocaine that had been left unattended in the family’s home on Cherry Street.
According to the Geneva Police Department, officers responded to the residence around 3 p.m. Monday to assist Finger Lakes Ambulance after reports that a child had consumed the drug. Paramedics treated the 13-year-old, who was later released to relatives.
Investigators say the child’s father, 50-year-old Eric Guthrie, allegedly left the cocaine in a location accessible to his two minor children. Guthrie, a convicted felon, was taken into custody and charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Following processing at the Geneva Police Department, Guthrie was transported to the Ontario County Jail for arraignment and subsequently released without bail. He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
The Ontario County Child Protection Agency is assisting police with the ongoing investigation.
