Several legislators and county leaders inspect operations and inmate process
From Steuben County NY,
On Wednesday, January 28, 2026, Steuben County officials and elected leaders were invited by Sheriff Allard to tour the Steuben County Jail to gain an in-depth understanding of jail operations, resource allocation, and the inmate intake and housing process.
“We feel it is important for our legislators to see firsthand the difficult, professional, and dedicated work our Correction Officers do every day so that they can make educated decisions concerning the jail operations and the Sheriff’s Office as a whole” said Sheriff Allard.

The tour was designed to provide county leaders with a transparent look at how taxpayer dollars are utilized at the county level within the correctional system, while also offering insight into the daily responsibilities, challenges, and procedures involved in operating the facility.
The guided tour was led by Captain Justin Mills, Lieutenant Brian Logsdon, and Major Sutton of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office.
Several county legislators and other Steuben County officials were in attendance, underscoring a shared commitment to transparency, accountability, and informed governance. The visit reinforced the importance of collaboration between elected leaders and law enforcement professionals to ensure decisions are grounded in real-world understanding and operational realities.
Steuben County remains committed to responsible stewardship of public resources, public safety, and continued dialogue between county leadership and those who serve on the front lines of law enforcement.
