Staff Report / March 11, 2026

Avoca NY – A Corning woman faces multiple felony charges following a traffic stop early Wednesday morning in the Steuben County town of Avoca.

According to the New York State Police, troopers arrested 40-year-old Kellie Kelley of Corning, New York on March 5 after a vehicle stop on County Route 105.

Authorities said troopers assigned to SP Bath were on patrol at approximately 1:47 a.m. when they observed a 2015 Chevrolet Impala failing to maintain its lane and crossing the center line several times in Avoca, New York. Troopers initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver.

Police said the operator initially gave troopers a false name and was unable to properly identify herself. During the investigation, troopers located identification inside the vehicle and determined the driver was Kelley. A records check revealed her New York State driver’s license had been suspended and that she had multiple outstanding warrants from the Corning Police Department, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, and State Police at Painted Post.

Kelley was taken into custody without incident.

During an inventory of the vehicle prior to towing, troopers reported discovering approximately 30 grams of methamphetamine along with additional quantities of the drug. Police also said they recovered a .223 caliber semi-automatic assault-style rifle, two large-capacity ammunition feeding devices and ammunition from the vehicle.

After being transported to SP Bath for processing, authorities said Kelley voluntarily surrendered another quantity of methamphetamine that had been concealed on her person.

She has been charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree with intent to sell, a class B felony; criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree for possession of an assault weapon, a class D felony; two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree for possession of ammunition feeding devices, also class D felonies; and tampering with physical evidence, a class E felony.

Additional charges include aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree, a misdemeanor, along with several vehicle and traffic law violations.

Kelley was transported to the Steuben County Jail for centralized arraignment. Authorities also notified the Corning Police Department, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office and State Police in Painted Post regarding the outstanding warrants.

State Police said the investigation is ongoing.
