Emergency responders rescued two people from Seneca Lake on Sunday after a boating incident left them stranded in the water, according to authorities.
First responders were dispatched to Seneca Lake after reports that two individuals needed assistance on the water. Emergency crews, including local fire departments and marine rescue personnel, responded to the scene and were able to safely recover both people from the lake.
Officials said neither individual suffered serious injuries during the incident. Authorities have not released the names of those rescued or additional details about what led to the emergency call.
The rescue comes as boating activity increases across the Finger Lakes region ahead of the summer season. Safety officials continue encouraging boaters to wear life jackets, monitor weather conditions, and carry emergency communication equipment while on the water. New York law also requires operators of motorized boats to complete a state-approved boating safety course under Brianna’s Law.
Seneca Lake, the largest of the Finger Lakes by volume and depth, is a popular destination for recreational boating, fishing, and tourism throughout the warmer months. Local marine patrol units routinely conduct safety patrols on the lake during peak boating season.
