Steuben County will see a new 147-megawatt wind farm, while St. Lawrence County will get a 240-megawatt solar farm. These projects will combine to power 123,000 homes with clean energy.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced today the approval of two significant renewable energy projects in Upstate New York. The Prattsburgh Wind Farm, a 147-megawatt project in Steuben County, and the Rich Road Solar project, a 240-megawatt project in St. Lawrence County, will collectively add 387 megawatts of clean energy to the state’s grid.
The Prattsburgh Wind Farm, spanning 53 acres across five towns, is expected to produce enough electricity to power 62,000 homes. The project will generate $1.2 million annually in tax revenue and create 81 construction jobs and eight permanent positions. The Rich Road Solar project will feature three ground-mounted solar arrays and is anticipated to create 300 construction jobs and four permanent jobs. It will also generate $24 million in payments to the Town of Canton over 35 years.
Governor Hochul praised these projects as crucial steps towards a clean energy future, creating jobs and providing sustainable energy for New Yorkers.
