The Penn Yan Village Board has granted approval for the fire-damaged Penn Yan Diner to operate a temporary food truck as a means to raise funds for rebuilding efforts.
The diner, which has been closed since a fire in May, will set up the food truck in the Wagner parking lot on Elm Street. The truck will occupy seven parking spaces and will be accompanied by tables and trash cans. The plan is for the food truck to operate from mid-October until November 30 or the first significant snowfall.
Final approval for the food truck hinges on securing temporary electrical service and paying the necessary fees. Initially, the village board expressed concerns about safety and rejected placing the truck in front of the diner.
The temporary food truck is seen as a way for the diner to maintain a presence in the community and generate income while the rebuilding process takes place.
