Bath Rotary Club: “Service above self” for 101 years

Have you considered becoming a Rotarian ?

 Written by Elaine Tears

Founded in Chicago in 1905 as the world’s first volunteer service organization, Rotary quickly expanded around the globe.  Clubs meet weekly for fellowship and interesting and informational programs dealing with topics and projects of local and global importance.  Clubs are nonreligious, nongovernmental, and open to every race, culture, and creed.  The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise.

Rotarians plan and execute a remarkable variety of humanitarian, educational, and cultural programs and projects which touch people’s lives in their local communities and the world.  They live by the motto of “Service Above Self”.

The work of Rotary begins in the community; every community has its own unique needs and concerns.  While Rotarians serve in countless ways, they focus their efforts in seven key areas to maximize their impact: Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution; Disease Prevention and Treatment; Water and Sanitation; Maternal and Child Health; Basic Education and Literacy; Economic and Community Development; the Environment.

The Bath Rotary Club, founded in 1923, is made up of visionary men and women who share a passion for and commitment to enhancing their community, neighboring communities, and the world.  Some of the specific projects in which Bath Rotarians participate include: Adopt-A-Highway Cleanup, Bath Area Thanksgiving Project, Camp STAR, Dormann Library Support, Downtown Bath Beautification, PolioPlus Campaign, Red Door Community Kitchen, Scholarships (11 scholarships with a value of $10,000 available to graduating seniors in six local schools), Scripps Spelling Bee Sponsor, The Rotary Foundation, Tyrtle Beach, and the Wineglass Marathon.

For more information about Rotary, including membership in the Bath Rotary Club, email Bill White (bewhitey@aol.com) or John Gould (gouldjc1949@gmail.com).  Additional information about the local club can also be viewed on the club’s website (www.bathnyrotary.org).
